Proficiency level of students: Pre - Intermediate Name of the activity: The Road That Changed the Direction of My Life Instructions: I will show students the fork in a forest road that is divided into two. These two roads will have almost equal characteristics with each other. (color of the leaves, how long the road has been walked on, etc.) I will leave the choice of roads to the students' free will and ask them to first write down why they chose that road, then what they may encounter on that road and what will happen to them in the future if they choose that road. I will match students who choose different roads with each other. (The student choosing the 1st road will be matched with the student who chose the 2nd road.) The students, who exchange their writings with each other, will see what they can encounter on the road they did not choose, with the comment of the other student. Thus, they will witness the adventure of both roads. The aim of the activity: This activity a...

Mirror by Sylvia Plath (1961) Poem Activities

Resim
Proficiency level of students: Pre - Intermediate Name of the activity: Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Who Has My Future Plans? Instructions: After reading the poem, I will give the students a mirror like the poem to the students. They will look at themselves with this mirror. First, students will look into their mirrors to understand the feelings of the woman who looks at the mirror in her room and is afraid of getting old and losing her beauty. Afterwards, they will look in the mirror, prioritizing their own feelings. If the mirror in which the students looked at themselves talked like in the poem and made observations, what could it say about the students? They will make predictions and write them down on a piece of paper. They will then assume that the mirror has been observing them for years and make assumptions about themselves in the future. For example, "This man, who has a big golden award in front of the blue wall I look at every day, is getting ready for the most import...

Tools:Flipgrid

Resim
Hi again! This is an application that I never heard of before. Come join me to find out this application!  Flipgrid  is a social learning platform that allows educators to ask a question, then the students respond in a video. Flipgrid  is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display. The video lenght is from 15 seconds to 5 minutes and I think that is a good gap because you can give a simple answer or a comprehensive one. I think teachers can determine the seconds so that students won't be  confused about their response video's lenght. Another great feature about Flipgrid is that you are not only limited to talk with your teachers. Student to student is a great way to learn actually and Flipgrid matters that subject. Student -to- Student  Replies allow ...

Hi everyone! As you can see from the title, we are going to examine St orybird!  Storybirds  are short, art-inspired stories you make to share, read, and print. It is a fun, collaborative, storytelling website. In the website, they are not giving you a blank white paper to write. They create their own concepts. That's why it's so easy to start with Storybird. If you want to improve your writing skills but you don't know how to do this, Storybird is a good start for you and for your education. Inside the website they have tutors and they speak about how to write your own versions. It is really helpful to see some teacher about this subject.  Storybird  was designed to allow children to work with parents and friends in creating art-inspired stories to share and save. I want to say that even though it looks like it was created for children, it has many features. Improves your writing skills Explores your creativity It makes you inspired with a lot of conc...

Tools:Padlet

Resim
Hi everyone! We have another tool, Padlet!  Padlet  is an application to create an online bulletin board that you can use to display information for any topic.   The user can post text, videos and images from a mobile device or a desktop. One of the great appeals of Padlet for classroom use is the fact that many people can post to the same board at the same time, making it very suitable for collaborative work and the creation of projects.  Use a Padlet to collaborate in collecting ideas and brainstorming. For example, the picture below shows a board where students were asked to post images that they associated with consumerism. Homework and assignments from different students can be put together if you ask learners to use the same Padlet board to post text, images, videos and audio when they get home.  After numerous works, your board becomes an 'idea bin' that is full of your students and yours ideas. You can use it outside the classroom as well. At wee...

Tools:Voki

Resim
I'm here again to show you helpful tools. This one is one of my favorite and its really fun. It is Voki !   Voki  is an educational tool that allows users to create their very own talking character.  Voki  characters can be customized to look like historical figures, cartoons, animals, and even yourself! In free version, you don't have a lot of characters and visuals but that's okay because I think they are already amazing. The only bad thing I can say about Voki is that your t ext should be limited with 600 characters. If that's a big problem for you, you can record videos one by one and edit those videos a fter. It  is a free Web 2.0 tool .  The site features educational resources, including teacher-submitted lesson plans. Users can customize characters to resemble living people, animals and cartoons. You can record voices with your computer or your phone and if you don't want to use your own voice, they have their own sounds. They are really various. They...

Tools: Powtoon

Resim
I'm here again to introduce you one of my favorite educational tool: PawToon.  PowToon  is Web-based animation software that allows you to quickly and easily create animated presentations with your students by manipulating pre-created objects, imported images, adding music and user created voice-overs. It is  a great learning space where entertainment and education combine together. It is a free application but if you want to have more effects and visuals, you can upgrade your membership with money. I think free one is enough to create fun and colorful animations but if you are going to use it often, I recommend that you should upgrade your membership. I think PawToon is a tool that should be used especially in the education of young children. We can create animations with them and they can see the progress. It will make them really excited for class. Because the areas of attention that they have are very limited, this method easily captures their attention...

Tools:Socrative

Resim
We have a new addition to our tools family: Socrative! Socrative  is a cloud-based student response system developed in 2010 by Boston-based graduate school students. It allows teachers to create simple quizzes that students can take quickly on any device that they have (laptops, computers, smartphones, tablets)  You have 3 options to create a quiz:multiple choice, true/false, short answer. This platform helps students to learn anywhere and how they want. Every student is different and they can take the tests however they want. To some students, true or false is a good way to learn but according to some students, it makes the learning process harder and they become confused. You can keep track of your students and take notes of their progress. It makes the feedback process easier and you get to know the every individual student. I created a quiz with using the true/false technic and I enjoyed it very much.

Tools:Blackboard

The Tools Series continues!  We will review the Blackboard.  Blackboard  is a tool that allows faculty to add resources for students to access online. Powerpoint, Captivate, video, audio, animation, and other applications are created outside of  Blackboard  and added into  Blackboard  courses for students to enhance teaching and learning efforts.  Blackboard is a system that provides not only educators, but also businesses. It is not limited with students and teachers using. But I will focus on the education part. Blackboard is a very comprehensive tool. Teachers and students can do a lot of things in this application. Learners receive curated notifications about their courses. Course content is instantly available and interacting with classmates and instructors are easy. You can FaceTime with the teacher thanks to Blackboard and this create a seamless learning experience and learners can easily study with one another in and out of class. ...

Welcome back to my Tools Series! Today, I'm going to introduce another useful app for students. Moodle  is a free and open-source learning management system. I t is used to create private websites with online courses for educators and trainers to achieve learning goals.  It is an online educational platform that provides custom learning environments for students. Educators can use  Moodle  to create lessons, manage courses, and interact with teachers and students.  It has many useful and good features but my favourite one is the calendar. In Moodle, there is a calend ar that shows your deadlines. It is so helpful for students to see all the things they should have done. It makes students organized and punctual. Time is really important in education and Moodle  pays great attention to this. Moodle is really po pular in the USA. In the USA Data only,  it looks like there are 713 installations with 500+ users.   Here is a video that shows how t...

My Augmented Reality Experience

Resim
Hi everyone! Today I want to indtroduce you to another experience of mine: Augmented Reality. It may seem similar with the Virtual Reality but they are different in so many ways. First of all let me introduce you to the term of Augmented Reality.  Augmented reality (AR) is a type of interactive, reality-based display environment that takes the capabilities of computer generated display. It aims to enhance the user's real world experience. The goal of Augmented Reality is to create a system which the user can't tell the difference between the real world and the virtual augmentation of it. Augmented Reality is used in many areas of life such as interior design, games, education, military training robotics etc. For example I recently experienced the IKEA App. This application allows you to easily select the furniture you want. All you have to do is download the app and  point your device to where you want to put your furniture. The app will show you how its going ...

My Virtual Reality Experience

Resim
Hi everyone! Today I want to talk about my recent experience that I loved : Virtual Reality. Virtual Reality is a computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional image or environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a person using special electronic equipment. Virtual reality is an artificial environment that is presented to the user in such a way that the user suspends belief and accepts it as a real environment. You can experience it so extreme that it sometimes can make you sick. Virtual reality sickness occurs when exposure to a virtual environment causes symptoms that are similar to motion sickness symptoms. The most common symptoms are general discomfort, headache, stomach awareness, nausea, vomiting, pallor, sweating, fatigue, drowsiness, disorientation, and apathy. Y ou wear the virtual reality headset over your eyes like a pair of goggl es.  It blocks out all external light and shows you an image o...

Every idea is represented by a Pin, which is an image that is searched and saved by  Pinterest  users. You can use the whole website as a board on your bedroom. You can ''pin'' them and create di fferent boards to store them with the same concepts. Pinterest is one of my favourite platforms because  it is unique. While the other popular social media sites focus on content and messages,  Pinterest  focuses on images and I love aestethic. I love Pinterest for various reasons. I decorated my own house looking up to Pinterest. I learned how to prepare presents for the people that I love. I learned how to dress pretty in winter by looking outfit inspiration boards.
